halloween 2025

of course, I lost track of time yesterday and forgot to work on then post this halloween blog. so, here is my roundup of horror related things to watch and read, drink and eat.

to watch

  1. welcome to derry (hbo): for fans of stephen king, pennywise the clown, gorey horror. yes, this show, so far, has been awesome and definitely twisty and worth the time. there’s a plan for three seasons covering different decades of It’s reign of terror. but with warner bros. putting themselves up for sale, who knows what will happen.
  2. weapons (hbo): a creepy story of seventeen kids going missing all in the same night at the same time. the mystery of it slowly unravels as we switch between different perspectives of the main characters.
  3. john carpenter movies: you can’t go wrong with spending the night watching this man’s movies. but if you only had time for three, you  won’t be disappointed with the following: in the mouth of madness; halloween; and the fog.
  4. bob’s burger & other cozy sitcoms: I love me my sitcoms. I love them more when they have seasonal episodes. bob’s burger has some of the best halloween episodes out there, but shows like superstore, the office, and modern family have quite the number of halloween episodes to keep you busy this night.

to read

  1. reddit: this one might sound weird but reddit’s subs like creepypasta and no sleep have endless creative stories that will creep you out and keep you reading. there are also some youtube channels that take these stories and narrate them.
  2. short classics: authors like Lovecraft, Poe, Jackson, or King have plenty of short stories to give you the heebie-jeebies.
  3. your next horror read: it’s best to begin a large horror book on the creepiest night of the year. if I had to recommend one though: the outsider by stephen king. the eeriness within this book definitely made me afraid of my dark closet some nights when reading this.

to eat & drink:

  1. coffee: considering the days are colder for most people, I find it comforting and warming having a nice hot cup of decaf coffee at night. a little splash of cream or a little scoop of sugar: yum yum.
  2. pizza & soda: if you’re staying home and passing out candy, there’s nothing better than eating grease and fat covered bread then following it with sugar and food coloring.
  3. candy: halloween is a holiday for kids. but adults should use it as a day to cheat on their diets. after the pizza and soda, take a handful of candy and enjoy yourself. it’s only one night after all.

also, for any gamers out there, you can’t go wrong playing a scary game, in the dark, by yourself. I would never do this myself but there are freaks out there who might find this fun.

for introverts like me, find your routine for halloween and have fun with it. there’s nothing wrong with staying home and watching tv or reading and drinking coffee. I think more adults need to tell themselves it’s ok to be boring. especially during holidays.
